With the exception being the iphone, I rarely take much notice when Apple makes a hardware release. This is mainly just because I’m already happy with the Apple hardware I have and don’t normally run out and buy the latest Mac. I like to run my stuff into the ground (as some of you know with my car). However, I found yesterday’s announcement particularly interesting thanks to the comments of Marco, the lead Tumblr developer. His main point being that the great screen (worth reading about) found in the 27″ iMac is now available available in September on it’s own for $999. That’s certainly not cheap for a screen, but Marco sums it up nicely when he writes:

The old 30” Cinema Display, which cost $1799 with the same horizontal resolution, slightly more vertical resolution, and much worse response time, contrast, and image quality, has just been effectively replaced with a $999 monitor that’s far nicer.

So in a sense it’s like an $800 price drop. I’ve been strongly considering a new iMac that can handle more RAM than the 4GB limitation on my current one. However, with this observation by Marco, I now see a MacBook Pro as a very possible alternative. What do you think?

I’d like to announce three really exciting things today. I hope you read until the end because the third thing could potentially put some cash in your pocket.

Going Fulltime

I’m so excited to announce today that I have turned in my notice with Meriwether Godsey, my employer for the past 4 months. I’ve been working around the clock to get Painted Digital off its feet and I will continue to do so in the coming months, but starting March 1st, I can devote 100% of my waking hours to building fantastic websites, making fun logos, drawing crazy illustrations, and all that boring stuff that comes with running a business. I’m going to try and increase my blogging to twice a week and if there’s any guys out there who love all those things as much as I do, let me know and we can start a podcast.

Podcast Transcribing

Speaking of podcasts…I’d like to let everyone know that Christina will be coming on board part-time to offer transcription services to all you video and audio bloggers and podcasters. We know that as the web moves forward, media is just going to get bigger, but you’ve gotta help search engines and more importantly, the hearing impaired, find and access your content. In conjunction, I’ll be doing a slight redesign to our homepage in the coming weeks.

Money Money Money

Here’s the announcement that you really want to read. From today until March 12, 2010, if you can bring me a paying referral, I will give you 5% of the sale or $50, whichever I can afford. I hope this excites you! It really excites me! Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the new Painted Digital! I have completely rebranded myself to better reflect who I am and who I want to become. I am officially accepting freelance work now so you can contact me via the form on the contact page, call me (also see contact page), or just shoot me an email. I’d love to hear your feedback on the site as well! I’ve worked quite hard and long on it 100% on my own. It still has some kinks to work out, so if you see anything broken I’d appreciate it if you let me know.

I’ll be adding more content and making some tweaks (including jazzing up this post page) over the coming weeks. I have a few projects that I want to keep secret for a little while longer, but stay tuned and I’ll try and give some sneak peeks. The RSS feed is almost setup and I’ll update this post when it’s ready. Thanks for visiting and don’t forget to leave your feedback!

UPDATE 12/1/09: Adding experimental Fancybox support for my portfolio. If you don’t know what that is, all you need to know is that some, but not all, of my portfolio items will now open in a large preview. It may also mean that things on the portfolio are broken. If you see something weird, again please let me know.
